Applies to the Counter Check — Send to Review browser extension
The extension adds a button to your browser toolbar. When you click it, it reads the visible text of whatever page is currently open, sends that text to your logged-in Counter Check account to run a review automatically, and opens a new tab showing the finished result. If the automatic review can't complete for any reason, it falls back to opening Counter Check with the text already filled into the paste box instead, so you can run it yourself.
Only the page you're actively viewing when you click the extension icon. It does not run automatically in the background, and does not read any page unless you deliberately click the extension on that page.
The extracted text is sent directly to Counter Check (countercheckai.com), using your existing logged-in session, to generate the review — the same way it would if you'd pasted it into the app yourself. It is not sent to, or shared with, any other party. If the automatic review doesn't complete, the extracted text is instead held briefly in your browser's local extension storage while a new Counter Check tab opens with it pre-filled, and is deleted from that local storage as soon as it's been used, or automatically after 5 minutes if it's never used.
It does not track your browsing, does not collect analytics, does not run on pages you haven't clicked it on, and does not communicate with any server other than countercheckai.com when you're actively using it to open a review.
activeTab — lets the extension read the page you're currently viewing, only at the moment you click the extension icon.
scripting — used to read that page's visible text right after you click.
storage — used to briefly hold the extracted text on your own device while a new Counter Check tab opens, so it can be filled in automatically.
Host access to countercheckai.com — needed so the extension can send the extracted text to your Counter Check account to run the review automatically, and open the finished result (or, if that fails, open Counter Check with the text pre-filled instead).
